The Living Arts Gallery in Hawi will show a collection of paintings by member Ilmar Reinvald through April, with an artist’s reception slated from 3 to 7 p.m. March 9.

Reinvald, a retired architect and professor, has been drawing since he was able to pick up a pencil. “Exploring the ever changing relationship between the hardness of man-made objects and the softness of nature has been an interesting challenge to me in watercolor painting,” he said. “Sometimes I find this relationship to be harmonious and sometimes clashing. Most of my painting is about communicating this relationship in such a way that the viewer feels the energy of this relationship.”

Reinvald moved to Waimea in 2008 and has been painting with North Kohala Plein Air Painters ever since. He became a working artist member of the Living Arts Gallery collective about a year ago. His subject matter ranges from plantation-era cottages to capturing people and places “in the moment.”

The gallery at 55-3435 Akoni Pule Highway is open from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. For more information, call 889-0739 or visit livingartsgallery.net.
